Hi guys, this is Gaby - owner of Psych Apparel, welcome to my blog!
I'll start with a bit of background about me and Psych and then I'll explain my plans for this section of the website. Firstly, I am 20 years old, I study Philosophy at Warwick University and I live in the UK. I started Psych Apparel in January of this year and debuted it at the Warwick Line society fashion show (pictured below).
Since then I've been steadily working on growing my brand. I started out by printing my own products and am now in the process of having my designs professionally manufactured. It's been such an amazing journey learning about all the aspects of the fashion industry, and by all means I have a lot more to learn, but I'd like to share that journey with you guys and inspire you to get involved. This is the main reason I have started this blog.
Through this blog I want to create a space to inspire people to go for things that they may think are out of reach. I want to show how you can get into the fashion industry whatever your background, and that you can do so at a young age. I will interview young people in every part of the industry whether that be influencers, photographers, models, brand owners etc. I will show how they made it in their particular area, and find useful advice for people wanting to do the same.
I don't have a professional fashion background, I've always had an interest in it but my fashion experience was mostly limited to going to the fabric shop with my Dad as a kid, picking out the sparkliest fabric I could find and stringing it together somehow (pictured below).
That said, I have found it to be very much possible to learn things of my own accord. I got into sublimation printing towards the end of last year, and have recently started learning embroidery. I've learnt how to make technical packs to send to manufacturers, how to grade pattern measurements (e.g. scale up and down for different sizes) and how to find reputable manufacturers - all through my own online research. The thing that I love the most about fashion is that the possibilities are endless, and there's always something new to try whether that be a new style, a new trend or a new technique. I'm going to be sharing these with you as I go, so if you're interested in any of that then subscribe to my website and you'll be notified about new blog posts.
I have my first interview lined up with a brand owner that I find really inspiring - Rohan Misra, owner of Dollymix Studios. We are going to be discussing his inspirations, goals and advice for other young people wondering where to start with making a brand and entering the fashion industry. If you guys have any suggestions about people who I should interview then let me know and I'll look into it, and if the content of my blog sounds like something you'd be interested in then subscribe to my website to get all the updates.
Love to you all,
